In my previous newsletter, I explored how buying decisions are shaped by risk, effort and reward, and how clarity helps clients understand what they’re buying.
Another powerful signal influencing decisions is trust.
Trust is one of the fastest ways to reduce perceived risk.
Whenever someone buys something, they are making a small leap of faith.
They are trusting that:
If that trust is weak, hesitation appears.
Think about how we choose a restaurant when travelling.
Very few of us will simply walk into the first place we see.
Instead, they check reviews.
We ask our friends for recommendations before we travel.
We look at ratings.
We look at how many people are already in the restaurant.
If it’s empty – we walk past to the next one.
We search for reassurance.
We trust complete strangers on the internet to tell us where to eat, but we still hesitate when a business asks us to make a decision.
In professional services, trust often comes from reputation.
Clients may ask:
Who else have you worked with?
What results have you delivered?
Who recommended you?
A referral from someone they respect can shorten the decision process dramatically.
Because the perceived risk has already been reduced.
You can see this behaviour everywhere.
Amazon reviews influence purchasing decisions.
TripAdvisor shapes tourism choices.
LinkedIn recommendations help establish credibility.
None of these systems change the product or service itself.
They simply reduce uncertainty.
When trust is strong, businesses rarely need to persuade aggressively.
The decision already feels safe.
Which is why reputation, relationships, and credibility remain some of the most powerful drivers of growth.
Sometimes the ideas in this newsletter land for a reason.
If this is one of those moments, it may be worth sitting with it for a while.
And if you’d like to explore it further, I work closely with a small number of business owners who are carrying decisions like these.
Nothing formal to begin with – just a conversation.
After all, it’s better to work smarter instead of harder.
If the timing feels right, you can arrange a conversation here.
Or until next time, stay tuned for more.
And always keep soaring.
